LHL: "Wildcat Coal Lodge?"

Let's all encourage the University of Kentucky to follow through with the effort to name the new men's basketball housing facility the "Wildcast Coal Lodge". Through private donations from the coal miners and companies, $7 million is going toward the construction of the new building, with the pre-condition that the facility would bear the proposed name. This shows the importance that coal has had to not only the Commonwealth's flagship university, but also the funds that help provide some of the best research and higher education opportunities in the United States.

"A group of donors who have put up $7 million for a new residence for the University of Kentucky men's basketball team have required that 'Coal' be its middle name.

On Tuesday, the board of trustees will take up a recommendation from UK President Lee T. Todd Jr. to approve what the agenda item describes as 'the request.' It already has been approved by the Committee on Naming University Buildings."
